Northeastern Wisconsin Area Health Education Center
NEWAHEC Connecting Students to Careers, Professionals to Communities, and Communities to Better Health

Our Mission
Our mission is to enhance access to quality health care, particularly primary and preventive care, for the underserved population in northeastern Wisconsin. Through the prudent use of available resources, we achieve our mission primarily through the education of present and future health professionals, by developing creative partnerships with academic institutions and community organizations.

Our Goal
Our goal is to improve access to health care by improving the number, distribution and diversity of health care providers in 11 counties in northeast Wisconsin.

How We Do It
All of our activities fall into one of four program areas:

  1. We develop and conduct health career awareness and recruitment activities for youth and adults - to build a pipeline.

  2. We facilitate community-based clinical training for health professions students - to aid in regional recruitment.

  3. We provide continuing education for health professionals - to develop mentors/preceptors and to assist with licensing requirements and maintain clinical competencies.

  4. We partner with local organizations in a variety of outreach activities - to improve the health of the community.
